I ordered this additional switch to be added to a larger Skylink kit that I installed.

I was looking for a replacement magnetic reed contact for my existing alarm system. The contact needed to be closed when the magnet is engaged (door is closed) and open if the magnet is moved away (door is open). This contact did that and also it came with little plastic spacers that helped align the parts together on the door frame.

I bought this to use with my Skylink Wireless alarm system. I was not sure if I should get the 433 which has the transmitter or just this alone. Then I read somewhere in the 433 reviews that this MS-001 will work equally fine without the transmitter … and I went ahead to buy this
First – this item is ivory color – not grey as shown in amazon picture.
Second – for this to work with the Skylink wireless system, it has to be attached to an EXISTING transmitter (not included) and the existing transmitter must be within wiring range since it has to connect to the various MS-001. For windows close by – like bay windows, it will work with one transmitter and additional MS-001. For a different entrance / door/ window – you will need to buy model 433 because you must have the transmitter within close proximity. The purpose of the transmitter is to send signals back to the control panel if the magnetic sensors were disconnected. The transmitter itself runs on battery (included) and is connected to each of the MS-001 by thin wires, about 8 inches long.
Last, this is not for you:
- if your window and door frames are not ivory color or if you mind a mismatched plastic casing showing prominently on your white frames.
- If you need to install another sensor at a different location – this is not for you. You need to buy the model 433 that includes the transmitter.
Other than the color and installation issues, this MS-001 works and the skylink system works and is really value for money. But I still returned everything because it did not work well for me.
