Paying With Change: How Much Is Crossing The Line?
We’ve all been there. Four more days until payday, not much food in the house, and all the money you have is change in a coffee can. The bank won’t cash it out for you, because your checking account balance is hovering over zero. You can use the Coinstar machine at the grocery store, but you have to pay 8 % for the convenience, and you really are trying to stretch your money. What would you do?
We’ve been doing that quite a bit because my husband (chef) gets his tips in change. Our market is used to us and they are so gracious that it’s no problem.
A few months back when we went out to dinner, we paid with 40 loonies (Canadian $1 coins).

I was at Target with a friend, and she used quarters, nickels, and dimes to buy something for $15. I felt sorry for the person at the cash register. He was counting change for three to five minutes.
The least extreme is when I bought a shirt at Nordstrom’s and it rang up as one cent!
go to a store that has self check out. you can take your time putting in coins.
I bought a case of beer with all pennies once.
